During the formative months of Season 1, the core of Gambit BenQ played together on team MTG. Struggling to achieve the decisive results necessary to compete on the world stage, they recruited a new Jungler and AD Carry. Forming Team Empire, the team skyrocketed to prominence by knocking out the veterans of SK Gaming in the second set of the IEM Kiev qualifiers. Their victory caught the attention of the eSports group Moscow Five, who picked them up shortly thereafter.
With a powerful, innovative lineup and a well-established sponsor, they proceeded to cast a long shadow over Season 2. Winning back-to-back IEM events at Kiev and Hanover, only the impressive play of Evil Geniuses (formerly CLG.EU) managed to halt their LAN dominance, with Gambit taking second at Dreamhack Summer 2012. The two teams would duel throughout the rest of Season 2, Gambit taking their revenge at ECC Poland and the Season 2 Regional Finals.
Their dominance of international tournaments positioned them as a titan of the European circuit, changing the international meta-game with their innovative strategies and amassing a devoted fan-following. A heavy favorite entering the Season 2 World Championships, Gambit nevertheless fell to the eventual champions Taipei Assassins in a 1-2 set in the semi-finals. Already pre-qualified for Season 3 and now under their new sponsor, Gambit looks poised to extend their rule over the entire EU LCS.
